Dr. McCarthy, a South Orange County native, grew up in Trabuco Canyon and attended Trabuco Hills High School. At the age of five she decided she wanted to be a veterinarian and began her career helping her family attend to the sheep, pigs, horses, turkeys, ducks, chickens, rabbits and a number of cats and dogs they raised on their property. Many of her pets were lost or injured animals that she nursed back to health. During high school, Dr. McCarthy worked as a kennel technician and bather in various animal hospitals and after high school left home to attend California Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science.
After undergraduate school, Dr. McCarthy was accepted into the School of Veterinary Medicine at University of California at Davis, where she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1999.
Dr. McCarthy is passionate about all furry creatures and loves coming to work every day to see what new challenges await her. In her down time, she enjoys the company of a houseful of feline and canine friends including a 3-pound Chihuahua named Gidget and Norwegian Forest Cat named Mocha. Most of Dr. McCarthy’s pets are rescues.
Like Dr. McCarthy, Katillia decided at a very young age that she wanted to spend her life helping animals. Assisting her father in breeding and showing Old English Sheepdogs, Katillia learned the importance of quality medical care. She did volunteer work in shelters and pet hospitals before starting her career as a bather and kennel technician while in high school. Katillia and her husband of 20 years are raising their two boys to also love animals by fostering and adopting various animals in need of a loving home.
With 20 years of experience under her belt, Katillia is an exceptional asset to Mission Hills Pet Care Center. Her calm and confidence, even in the most stressful situations, is a great example to her coworkers.
Mission Hills Pet Care Center would be lost without Hana. Her positive attitude, energy and excellent rapport with clients and animals alike, make her a great asset to our team.
